The Five Sailed Windmill
Beyond the glorious swell of the Lincolnshire Wolds lies the historically quaint, market town of Alford. It is within this rural farming community, that Millstones tearoom idyllically awaits the ambling tourist. On arrival the tearoom is nowhere to be seen, for each and every visitor is first greeted by the welcoming, open arms of Alford’s Five Sailed Windmill. Behind the mill is where Millstones lies; eagerly anticipating the arrival of tea lovers from far and wide. Each step away from the windmill brings the log cabin style, eco-friendly tearoom and the enticing smell of home baking, closer. On entering the tearoom the combined aromas of brewing tea, ground coffee and home baked cakes are comforting; soul warming on a blustery day. Once inside the cosy cabin, the smooth sounds of Billy Holiday fill the air, adding to the already relaxed and care-free atmosphere. The room has a ‘modern-country’ feel, with pastel bunting running across the beamed ceiling and antique style, decorative bird-cages and mirrors adorning the walls. The cute tables for two are set simply, with just the food and drink menus; both of which are brimming with organic choices. The tea selection is very reasonably priced, with pots started at just £1.40. The Earl Grey, a traditional favourite is only £1.50 for a pot, which pours well over two cups. To go with any of the delicious teas or coffees on offer, Millstones offer an extensive and delicious selection of homemade cakes. A gorgeously gooey slice of sultana and cinnamon flapjack, brought to the table still warm, will only add another £1.65 to the, already reasonable bill. All of this country splendour is delivered by the smiling staff, whose quality of service couldn’t be better. The tearooms visitor’s book only confirms this, with pages and pages filled with praise for the tea, cakes and staff. Tea Cup Rating:
