The Steep Hill Tea Room

The Steep Hill Tea Rooms was the perfect stop off for a pot of tea.

The traditional look from the outside continued throughout, old fashioned décor and although it was busy, it was not claustrophobic. The warmth of the tea room was inviting and we both sunk into our chairs to have a look at the menu.

We were spoilt for choice.  Light bites, sandwiches, homemade cakes, soft drinks and what we really wanted….tea and lots of it.There was an entire page dedicated to different pots of tea available from the classic Earl Grey to green tea.

After about five minutes we decided on a pot of Tea Room Blend for myself and a pot of Ceylan Pekoe for my companion.  The waitress was efficient and very polite, allowing us to take our time and was then prompt in bringing our tea to the table.Everyone around us seemed just as satisfied with the tea room, enjoying the quiet atmosphere and the warmth surrounding us all.
Our tea arrived in individual hand decorated tea pots, with matching cup and saucers, all delicately placed on the table.  We both had a tea strainer, a little jug of milk and sugar cubes.  We wanted traditional and we certainly got it. My tea room blend was delicate but for my palette needed sugar and milk.  My companion preferred his tea without milk and said it had a lemon after taste which was very nice.  There was no need to rush in here, taking your time was necessary but the negative to this was the tea going cold, a tea cosy would be a recommendation.

The tea pot delivered a generous three cups of tea for a worthwhile £1.95 and my companion also had three cups for £2.10.  We had said we were only having tea but after watching others with what looked like delicious cakes we had to try something.  We ordered a fruit scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream for £2.75 and it was worth every penny.  It was homemade which fitted perfectly to the entire ambiance of the tea room.  The scone and pot of tea was a delightful way to break up the walk up steep hill in Lincoln.

Overall it was good value for money, prompt and polite service, a relaxed and quiet atmosphere surrounded by traditional décor with scrumptious food and drink.
